Job Description:
Essential Duties:
- Perform preventive maintenance such as changing oil, greasing, and replacing components on a scheduled basis.
- Troubleshoot/diagnose heavy equipment malfunctions and replace parts, repair, and rebuild as necessary.
- Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.
- Read blueprints and follow service manuals and parts lists in setting up and performing repairs and any rebuilds.
- Utilize work orders and requisitions for ordering parts and maintenance of equipment cost records.
- Advise when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when continued operation will have harmful effect.
- Perform job duties following MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal environmental regulations.
Other duties:
- Fuel and lube equipment.
- Operate the equipment to diagnose problems and test and operate after repair.
- Operate light vehicles to travel throughout the mine site.
- Maintain shop area with proper housekeeping for a safe work environment. Ensure vehicles and tools are clean and properly maintained.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong work ethic with effective communication skills.
- Must have a background in repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, including the ability to read, understand, and use prints and manuals.
- Must possess knowledge of mechanical, i.e., engine, transmission, drive train, pneumatic, hydraulic components, brake, and air conditioning systems, and skills in diagnosing malfunctions.
- Rotating shift work is required, and must be able to work up to 12-hour shifts.
Education and Training:
- Two years of maintenance experience or a technical degree is required.
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Must pass the necessary written and practical tests for this position.
