A PhD student position is opened on the FET-Open (Future and Emerging Technologies) project “Functional & Dynamic 3D Nano- MicroDevices by Direct Multi-Photon Lithography”. The project aims at the development of a multifunctional platform integrating graded structural, patternable, conductive, and stimuli-responsive materials with sub-micrometer resolution.

The goal of the PhD thesis will be to obtain local piezoelectric transduction with ZnO layers deposited by area-selective atomic layer deposition (ALD). Normally, vapor-based deposition techniques enable the deposition over the entire substrate area. In this case, though, the possibility of obtaining high-resolution ZnO patterns (1–40 mm feature sizes) will be explored by creating areas with differential ZnO growth rate. Together with the piezoelectric transduction, the materials will be tested for crystalline aggregation and optoelectronic properties.

The position is fully funded for three years, with the possibility of an extension.

During the interview, the candidates will be asked to give a short presentation of their Master thesis to the research group they will work in, with a following short discussion.

Experience in the field of thin film deposition on surfaces and their structural characterization. Knowledge of the area of the physics of soft matter and surface science. Communication skills.
