Organizational Setting
The Director General's Office (DGO) provides leadership and coordination for all IAEA activities at the executive level for meeting Member States' needs, and achieving a one-house approach and a results-based management.
The Office of Public Information and Communication (OPIC) plays a vital role in advancing the IAEA’s mission by delivering objective, accurate, and timely information about the Agency and global nuclear developments. Through strategic communication efforts, OPIC fosters public understanding of the safe, secure, and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology, as well as the IAEA’s global roles.
OPIC advises the Director General on media relations, organizes press briefings and interviews, develops digital platforms and campaigns, and coordinates communication activities across the Agency. It supports major IAEA events and conferences by managing media engagement, creative content production and ensures effective internal communication within the organization. The Office also manages the Agency’s Visitor Centre and related outreach activities to attract and engage visitors.
The Web, Digital Media and Public Information Materials Section, operating under OPIC, holds corporate responsibility for editorial oversight, content creation, digital media outreach and campaigns, and the development of information products. It manages the Agency’s platforms for both internal and external communication, as well as the Seibersdorf Visitor Centre (SVC). The Section plays a key role in enhancing the IAEA’s visibility and public engagement by producing high-quality web and social media content in multiple languages, including public information campaigns, graphic design, and outreach to educational institutions for guided tours of the SVC. Through strong corporate branding and compelling storytelling, it supports the Agency’s communication objectives and strengthens public awareness and understanding of the IAEA’s mission and activities.
Main Purpose
The Seibersdorf Visitors Centre (SVC) seeks to enhance public knowledge and understanding of the safe, secure and the peaceful use of nuclear science, technology and applications and of the IAEA’s work and role through guided tours and interactive exhibits.
The Associate Public Information Officer (Tour Guide) is reporting directly to the Advocacy and Outreach Officer, and he/she assists in increasing awareness of the work of the IAEA by coordinating and conducting guided tours of the Seibersdorf Labs and the SVC exhibits for all visitors.
Role
The Associate Public Information Officer (Tour Guide) will be based in the IAEA Laboratories in Seibersdorf and plays several key roles: 1) a team member, assisting the team to meet its operational objectives; 2) a communicator, explaining the work of the IAEA to visitors and 3) an analyst, reviewing existing processes and proposing improvements.
Functions / Key Results Expected
- Successfully and timely coordinate the organisation of the visitor tours of the Laboratories and the exhibits with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Present IAEA and nuclear-related information to visitors in a clear, accurate and professional manner in order to promote a better understanding of the work of the Agency when conducting guided tours of the Laboratories and the interactive exhibits.
- Provide an enjoyable and educational experience to visitors, tailoring tone and content to the various audience while consistently showing strong client orientation and interpersonal skills.
- Timely initiate with the relevant internal and external counterparts the necessary follow-up on maintenance issues to ensure the exhibits are functioning efficiently.
- Collect visitors’ evaluation and produce relevant analysis in consultation with the Advocacy and Outreach Officer to continuously improve the visitors’ centre guided tour services, and to enhance the Agency outreach to the various visitors, including students.

- Bachelor's Degree - Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, public relations, social sciences, international relations, or a related field.
- Experience in the field of communications, public information, or a related field is also an asset.
- Working experience with students is an asset.
- Working experience as a tour guide is an asset.
- Knowledge of the work of the IAEA is an asset.
- Excellent oral and written command of English and German. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
Remuneration
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $43144 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 23039*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks' annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance. Appointment information
- Appointment is subject to a satisfactory medical report.
- Staff members may be assigned to any location.
- Candidates appointed to posts in the Professional and higher categories are subject to IAEA rotation policy and their maximum tour of service shall normally be seven years.
