The Centre of Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science was founded in 2019 and is comprised of 15 groups that conduct internationally leading research in the field of microbial ecology and environmental systems science. The Doctoral School in Microbiology and Environmental Science at the Centre assembles an international, ambitious and committed team and offers an interdisciplinary scientific environment, cutting-edge laboratories and a creative working atmosphere.
Your personal sphere of influence:
We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic PhD student in the field of host-microbe interactions. The PhD project will investigate chlamydial symbionts in protists and will involve protist cultivation and infection experiments, advanced fluorescence microscopy methods, genomics and transcriptomics approaches, and bioinformatics analyses.
The announcement is made for four years, whereby the employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of four years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.
Your future tasks:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This includes:
+ Involvement in a research project on chlamydial symbionts in protists
+ Publications and presentations
+ Involvement in project applications for third-party funding
+ Teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
+ Supervision of trainees and students
We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within the first year of employment.
This is part of your personality:
Diploma or master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, or equivalent qualification
Excellent command of written and spoken English
High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
Excellent team-working ability
Experience with working on microbial symbioses, as well as practical experience with bacterial, protist and/or cell culture, fluorescence in situ hybridization, fluorescence microscopy, and bioinformatics are preferred.
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have very good communication and organizational skills.
