Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual with expertise in free-space Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) systems, particularly for satellite-based applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in QKD protocols, atmospheric turbulence modeling, and the simulation of background radiation in space-based QKD systems. Additionally, experience with quantum optical lab setups and prototype development is highly valued. This role involves contributing to cutting-edge research and development in secure quantum communication from space.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct system design on satellite-based QKD systems.
- Develop and use numerical models of atmospheric turbulence using Fourier optics methods.
- Simulate and analyze background radiation and its impact on QKD performance.
- Explore and evaluate various QKD protocols (e.g., BB84-Decoy, BBM92).
- Investigate the operation and optimization of QKD networks, focusing on secure and efficient quantum communication.
- Contribute to laboratory work, including the development and prototyping of quantum optical setups for QKD systems.
- Master's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field (PhD preferred).
- Strong understanding of QKD protocols and principles.
- Experience with numerical modeling and simulation of atmospheric turbulence and background radiation.
- Familiarity with Fourier optics and related computational methods.
- Hands-on experience in a quantum optics lab and prototype development is a significant plus.

The minimum gross salary for this position is € 3,284.86 per month (based on full-time employment) in accordance with the collective agreement. However, there is a willingness to offer a higher salary depending on experience and qualifications.
