The Austrian Red Cross (AutRC), in partnership with the IFRC Regional Office Africa (ROA) and National Societies (NS) as well as the ICRC across the wider Nile River Basin in East Africa, is implementing a transboundary project aimed at strengthening regional emergency WASH (eWASH) preparedness and response capacities. This includes the joint delivery of trainings, surge capacity development, pre-positioning of green WASH equipment, and the institutionalization of inclusive, environmentally sustainable WASH practices.
This position will be a key technical and coordination role within the project team, ensuring the successful delivery of all training activities across the 12 participating National Societies. Working under an AutRC contract and embedded within the regional coordination structure, the delegate will collaborate closely with IFRC, ICRC, and host National Societies to design, facilitate, and adapt emergency WASH trainings to a variety of operational contexts, including conflict-affected areas. The role requires frequent travel across East Africa and a strong commitment to inclusive and environmentally sustainable WASH practices.
REGIONAL WASH TRAINING DELEGATE (M/F/D)
TEMPORARY CONTRACT UNTIL DECEMBER 2026
Aufgabengebiet
- Coordinate the logistics, content planning, and implementation of all regional and national eWASH and ToT trainings in close collaboration with IFRC, ICRC, and National Societies.
- Liaise with the IFRC Innovation and Logistics Officer to ensure the timely procurement of all training equipment and materials.
- Facilitate training sessions, providing hands-on guidance and adapting delivery methods to meet the contextual needs of diverse audiences.
- Integrate Protection, Gender and Inclusion ( PGI), Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA), Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) and Green Response elements into all training modules, in line with IFRC and international standards.
- Support the identification and coaching of high-potential female candidates for leadership roles in eWASH.
- Maintain and regularly update participant records, post-training feedback, and performance assessments to support roster inclusion and deployment readiness.
- Coordinate with IFRC and National Society focal points to ensure successful participants are added to the regional SURGE database.
- Adapt training content, in collaboration with ICRC and Host National Societies (HNS), to address the specific needs of conflict-affected contexts.
- Prepare training reports and contribute to visibility materials, case studies, and best practice documentation.
- Assist in organizing regional knowledge-sharing events and capturing lessons learned for integration into future training cycles
Profil
- Minimum of 5 years of operational management experience in international humanitarian and/or development programming (NGO, IO, or charity); experience within the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement is a strong asset
- University degree or diploma in international development, civil- or environmental engineering, public health, or another relevant field.
- Proven experience in humanitarian WASH project or programme management and strong coordination, communication, organizational, and planning skills
- Knowledge and experience of the wider Nile River Basin region in East Africa.
- Experience of leading teams and supporting employee wellbeing and development
- Training/workshops facilitation or adult learning experience
- Emergency WASH experience on national and international Level
- Solid understanding of donor reporting, accountability standards, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to work under pressure and in complex security environments.
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
- Excellent English skills (spoken and written)
- High motivation for humanitarian and development work with strong sensitivity to cultural diversity and inclusion.
- Willingness to travel and work in conflict affected countries and regions specifically in East Africa.
