We are now building on this strong culture and provision to become a leading provider of accessible higher education. - THE ROLE – This is a key post that will contribute to the ambitions of the University’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy and the implementation of a stepped approach to supporting student mental health and wellbeing. The postholder will manage and co-ordinate the work of a team of Wellbeing Advisors (all holding relevant mental health qualifications and practical experience), ensuring the team meets both student and service needs, in terms of quality and evidence based advice given, service provision and development. They will lead the development of advisory services, ensuring that services are responsive to student need and emerging safeguarding concerns or related issues across the student population. They will collaborate with other services across the directorate and the university to develop new initiatives to support students to self-manage their wellbeing issues. The post holder will also be responsible for the management and oversight of a team of Specialist Mental Health Mentors (UMHAN registered) to provide tailored, one-to-one support for students with mental health difficulties. The post holder will oversee the allocation of students to mentors’ caseloads, ensure timely approval of timesheets, and provide regular 1:1 and group supervision to support the quality and consistency of the mentoring service. The post holder will lead and manage a triage team responsible for the initial assessment of student support needs, ensuring timely and appropriate referral to internal or external services. They will handle complex and high-risk cases directly, working closely with key stakeholders such as academic staff, external health professionals, and safeguarding leads. The post holder will ensure all interventions align with university policy, safeguarding procedures, and relevant legislation, maintaining high standards of professional practice and student care. The post holder will be responsible for establishing new links and maintaining existing relationships with a range of external agencies, including NHS services, other higher and further education institutions, and third-sector organisations. They will coordinate referrals for students with complex needs or in crisis, ensuring access to specialist support. In addition, the post holder will actively seek out opportunities for staff training and development through collaboration with external partners.
